FAQ

North America Flight Questions

Common questions about flying from the UK to North American destinations.

For the USA, UK citizens need an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) — apply online at least 72 hours before travel, costs $21, valid for 2 years. For Canada, you need an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) — $7 CAD, valid for 5 years. Both are quick online applications. We send reminders and guidance with every booking to these destinations.

British Airways flies direct to Barbados, Jamaica (Montego Bay), St Lucia, Antigua, Grenada, and the Bahamas from London. Virgin Atlantic serves Barbados, Jamaica, and St Lucia from Gatwick and Heathrow. Caribbean Airways flies direct to Trinidad & Tobago from Gatwick. InterCaribbean and Cayman Airways also offer seasonal direct flights to specific islands.

The Caribbean has two main seasons: dry season (December–April) with peak prices, and wet/hurricane season (June–November) with the lowest fares. The sweet spot is May–June and November — just outside peak season with good weather and reduced prices. Book 3–4 months ahead for winter flights, or grab last-minute deals in September–October.

Absolutely. Many travellers fly into one island and out of another. Inter-Caribbean carriers like interCaribbean Airways, Caribbean Airways, LIAT, and SVG Air connect the islands with short 30–60 minute flights. Popular combos include Barbados + St Lucia, Antigua + Montserrat, or a wider island-hopping itinerary. We can package it all into one ticket.

Strongly recommended — especially for the USA where healthcare costs can be astronomical. A simple ER visit can cost thousands without insurance. For Canada, healthcare is available to visitors but travel insurance covers repatriation and private care. For Caribbean islands, medical facilities vary significantly — insurance with medical evacuation cover is essential for smaller islands like Dominica or Nevis.
